Bully, the beloved open-world action-adventure game by Rockstar, may be making a return as new console versions have been rated in Taiwan. The recent ratings for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and other platforms suggest that Rockstar could be working on a modernized edition of the classic title.

While this might indicate a potential remaster, it could also be related to Bully’s recent inclusion in the GTA+ subscription service. Fans of the game are eagerly awaiting official confirmation.

Highlights

  • New console versions of Bully were rated in Taiwan.
  • The newly emerged ratings mention the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game, among others.
  • While it”s possible that Rockstar is working on another edition of Bully, the rating could also be related to the game”s recent addition to the GTA+ subscription service.

Bully may be making a comeback, according to some recently published regulatory filings. The newly emerged evidence suggests that Rockstar is possibly working on modernizing Bully for the latest two console generations.

Bully, known as Canis Canem Edit in Europe, is a critically acclaimed open-world action adventure made by Rockstar Vancouver. It was originally released for the PS2 in 2006 before an improved version of the game, subtitled Scholarship Edition, made its way to the Wii, Xbox 360, and PC two years later. A third rendition debuted in 2016, when Bully: Anniversary Edition launched on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.

Why A Bully Remake May Make A Lot More Sense Than a Bully 2 Right Now

Fans have been clamoring for a Bully 2 for years now, but Rockstar has failed to deliver one, and at this point a remake may be better.

Bully Rated in Taiwan for PlayStation and Xbox Consoles

Yet another edition of the game may now be on the horizon, as Bully has just received multiple new age classifications in Taiwan. As first spotted by Gematsu, the Digital Game Rating Committee”s database was recently updated with entries for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Bully. All four were published in late August 2024, together with new DGRC age ratings for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Since Bully: Scholarship Edition already has a DGRC rating from 2006, this new X360 classification was possibly published in error.

Bully”s GTA+ Debut Is Possibly Connected to Taiwan Ratings

While the emergence of these ratings could indicate that Rockstar is working on another version of the game, that”s not the only possible explanation. The company just recently added Bully to its GTA+ subscription service, which is available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This move might have prompted it to update the game”s age classifications.Close

At the same time, remastering one of its classics would hardly be an unprecedented move on Rockstar”s part. After all, that”s precisely what the company did with the 2021 Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy bundle. Red Dead Redemption was also ported to the Switch and PlayStation 4 back in 2023, shortly following its 13th anniversary.

The new DGRC age classifications have emerged online shortly after one report claimed that Rockstar was once working on a Bully DS port. However, that project is said to have been shelved around 2009, possibly because its developers at Rockstar Leeds were assigned to help Team Bondi finish LA Noire. Aside from new versions of Bully, Taiwan”s game classification authority has recently also published ratings for console editions of Nine Sols, a critically acclaimed metroidvania that”s currently only available on PC and hasn”t been announced for any other platforms.

Bully

Bully was created by Rockstar Games, the same team behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. Bully is often referred to as “GTA in school” as the game is set in a boarding school where players will partake in classes, make friends and enemies, and follow a compelling narrative about breaking down social barriers.
